Happy Friday, ya’ll! My name is Reesie and my momma found Miss Grace through Facebook and now I’m gonna be a star because I’m debuting on this blog! Wahoo! I’ve had quite an adventurous and sometimes treacherous life in my three years! But I have the best momma who loves me with all of her heart and keeps me well!
My momma found me in a shelter in Northern VA after her sweet staffie shepherd mix, Jazz, went to live at the Rainbow Bridge. And my momma knew it was meant to be because I was brought into the shelter the same night she lost her furry friend.
She didn’t walk in and find me, but the shelter peoples had me on the internet and she was looking for a pup and found me! When my momma called the shelter peoples they said I was 5 years old. Momma came to visit me on her way home from work and then brought her other two furry friends (now my siblings!) to meet me too, and we got along famously! I just wanted to play with them and love them! So then my momma said she would ‘dopt me and a few days later I was home!
When I got home, I busted outta the staples from my spay surgery and momma had to take me to the vet. This was the beginning of some of my adventures and treachery! Momma took me to the vet to get it all fixed up. The vet looked over my papers and the other peoples that had me before said I was 9, then the shelter said I was 5. But my teeth were pearly and my energy was high, so my momma asked the vet how old they thought I was. And they finally figured out that I was 9 months old! So then my momma knew she was in for it because my energy wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon!
The vet fixed me up and I got to go home. But then, one time when I was going number 2 in the backyard, my momma saw these big, yucky worms, so I had to go back to the vet. When they thought the yucky wormys were gone, I started feeling sick again! My stomach couldn’t keep anything down so my momma kept having to take me back and forth to the vet. The vet peoples said that I had giardia and so I couldn’t eat regular doggy food anymore! So my momma had to start making me chicken and rice all the time! Which I liked a lot because it tastes better than some crunchy old dog food! It took my momma 9 months to get my system better and even though I still look kinda skinny, I feel much better and my momma takes care of me so well!
And another time, when my momma went out of town she had to board me and my siblings. When she got back we went home and went outside to play and I got stung by a BEE! It hurt so bad and was so scary. I told my momma that something was wrong by digging at my paw. My momma pulled out the bee’s stinger, but then I passed out and lost all control of my body!
Momma took me as fast as she could to the emergency vet. I was barely alive in the car. My momma kept her hand on me the whole time and was talking to me the whole way to the vet. When we got there they could not even read my blood pressures! I don’t really know what that is, but I know it’s bad if they cannot find it! Finally, I was getting better and they kept me overnight. Now, when I go places, my momma has to bring this thingy called an epi pen, Benadryl and peanut butter, just in case I get stung by another scary BEE!
So since then, I haven’t had any other scary run-ins. But my momma is always prepared, just in case! Now that I’m feeling good (I started being able to eat beef, too, which helps me feel less hungry and doesn’t hurt my insides!) I like to do lots of things.
I run on the treadmill and work with this nice trainer person. I run a lure course. And even with all that running, I still have lots and lots and lots of energy!!!
I play with my furry siblings , cuddle, and love my new life!
If my momma hadn’t given me that chance, I may not have made it out of the shelter. I am thankful everyday that she loves me so much and gave me this great life! A note from my momma:
“I love every day with her (Reesie’s) crazy antics and miss her every minute that I am not with her. I work with 2 rescue groups that are both No – Kill but chose to rescue from a kill shelter since I knew the animals that I worked with would never have to face this fate. She has been a challenge but I don’t regret a minute of it and I am so thankful for every day that we have together. ”
Isn’t she the bestest? Now, go out and find a furry love like me! There are so many who needs good homes! And I promise, we will not always be easy, but we will be worth it. We will give you love like no other. Give shelter dogs a chance.
Thanks for reading!!!!
Love,
Reesie
