Dog of the Week: Rescued Reesie

Happy Friday, ya’ll!  My name is Reesie and my momma found Miss Grace through Facebook and now I’m gonna be a star because I’m debuting on this blog! Wahoo!  I’ve had quite an adventurous and sometimes treacherous life in my three years!  But I have the best momma who loves me with all of her heart and keeps me well!

Ressie1

My momma found me in a shelter in Northern VA after  her sweet staffie shepherd mix, Jazz, went to live at the Rainbow Bridge.  And my momma knew it was meant to be because I was brought into the shelter the same night she lost her furry friend.

She didn’t walk in and find me, but the shelter peoples had me on the internet and she was looking for a pup and found me!  When my momma called the shelter peoples they said I was 5 years old. Momma came to visit me on her way home from work and then  brought her other two furry friends (now my siblings!) to meet me too, and we got along famously!  I just wanted to play with them and love them!  So then my momma said she would ‘dopt me and a few days later I was home!

When I got home, I busted outta the staples from my spay surgery and momma had to take me to the vet.  This was the beginning of some of my adventures and treachery!  Momma took me to the vet to get it all fixed up.  The vet looked over my papers and the other peoples that had me before said I was 9, then the shelter said I was 5.  But my teeth were pearly and my energy was high, so my momma asked the vet how old they thought I was.  And they finally figured out that I was 9 months old!  So then my momma knew she was in for it because my energy wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon!

The vet fixed me up and I got to go home.  But then, one time when I was going number 2 in the backyard, my momma saw these big, yucky worms, so I had to go back to the vet.  When they thought the yucky wormys were gone, I started feeling sick again!  My stomach couldn’t keep anything down so my momma kept having to take me back and forth to the vet.   The vet peoples said that I had giardia and so I couldn’t eat regular doggy food anymore!  So my momma had to start making me chicken and rice all the time!  Which I liked a lot because it tastes better than some crunchy old dog food!  It took  my momma 9 months to get my system better and even though I still look kinda skinny, I feel much better and my momma takes care of me so well!

And another time, when my momma went out of town she had to board me and my siblings.  When she got back we went home and went outside to play and I got stung by a BEE!  It hurt so bad and was so scary.  I told my momma that something was wrong by digging at my paw.  My momma pulled out the bee’s stinger, but then I passed out and lost all control of my body!

Momma took me as fast as she could to the emergency vet.  I was barely alive in the car.  My momma kept her hand on me the whole time and was talking to me the whole way to the vet.  When we got there they could not even read my blood pressures! I don’t really know what that is, but I know it’s bad if they cannot find it!  Finally, I was getting better and they kept me overnight.   Now, when I go places, my momma has to bring this thingy called an epi pen, Benadryl and peanut butter, just in case I get stung by another scary BEE!

So since then, I haven’t had any other scary run-ins.  But my momma is always prepared, just in case!  Now that I’m feeling good (I started being able to eat beef, too, which helps me feel less hungry and doesn’t hurt my insides!) I like to do lots of things.

I run on the treadmill and work with this nice trainer person.  I run a lure course.  And even with all that running, I still have lots and lots and lots of energy!!!

I play with my furry siblings , cuddle, and love my new life!Reesie3

If my momma hadn’t given me that chance, I may not have made it out of the shelter.  I am thankful everyday that she loves me so much and gave me this great life!  A note from my momma:

“I love every day with her (Reesie’s) crazy antics and miss her every minute that I am not with her.  I work with 2 rescue groups that are both No – Kill but chose to rescue from a kill shelter since I knew the animals that I worked with would never have to face this fate. She has been a challenge but I don’t regret a minute of it and I am so thankful for every day that we have together. ”

Isn’t she the bestest?  Now, go out and find a furry love like me!  There are so many who needs good homes!  And I promise, we will not always be easy, but we will be worth it.  We will give you love like no other.  Give shelter dogs a chance.

Thanks for reading!!!!

Love,

Reesie

Dog of the Week: Rambunctious Remi

Happy Friday, party people!  So I told my momma that I wanted to be Dog of the Week at least once for her blog.  And finally, she let me!  She told me that she talks about me all the time anyway, but I still want the title of Dog of the Week!  And my momma said I deserve it because I’m the sweetest dog she knows!

My momma already told the story of how she ‘dopted me!  But now, I get to tell the story from my view.  And I have to say, it’s a pretty great one!  My momma and daddy came to meet me at Malia’s (my awesome foster momma) when I was just a wee one and looked like this.

baby Remi

My momma and daddy instantly fell in love with me and I fell in love with them.  I was the runt of my littler and my brother and sisters were much bigger than me!!!  But now I’ve grown into a big girl, I even weigh more than my sissy Bella!  So I got to live with Malia and her family (Hi Victoria and Julia! I love and miss you!) for a little while longer and then, when I was big enough, momma and daddy brought me home!

I came home in November of 2011.  And I got to have my sissy Bella come with me and we even have a brother, named Grigio!  He’s a cat.  He writes on momma’s blog all the time!  Sometimes I think he doesn’t like us, but I LOVE him and wish he would play with me all the time!

So since I’ve been in my furever home, I do lots of fun things.

I play with my toys and cuddle on blankies.

I lay on momma and daddy’s bed. All the time.  And I love that they let me!

And I wouldn’t be able to do all this fun stuff without the good peoples at BullyPaws that rescued me , my doggy momma, and my brother and sisters.

There are lots of other doggies out there, sweet like me, just waiting for a human momma and daddy to ‘dopt them!  Give them a chance.

Thanks for reading!  And thanks, momma, for making me Dog of the Week!

Dog of the Week: Birthday Boy Shemp!

Happy Friday, people.  My name is Shemp, and it’s my birthday!

bdayshemp

I’m 3 today.  My dad rescued me from Prince William Animal Shelter when I was a wee one and I have been with him and my momma ever since!

shempbaby

Since I was little, I’ve been a little bit scared of some people and sometimes very shy.  I love other dogs though and love to play!

I have a human sister, who loves me so much she made me this.

shemppictureframe

Sometimes I bark at people I don’t know and they are scared.  I wish they understood that I’m actually the scared one and just need some patience!  But thankfully, my momma and dad take really good care of me and tell people for me because they don’t seem to understand me when I try to speak English!

Here is a picture of me and my dad.

Shempandhisdad

Sometimes my sister likes to dress me up.  Actually, sometimes my parents do, too. I don’t mind it.

Hawaiianshemp

Like a Hawaiian.

Shempears

Like a butterfly.

shempsweater

Like myself, in a sweater!

Sometimes, when I don’t feel like dressing up, I take naps. And I take up more than one bed.

All in all, I’m a happy boy and try to be a good ambassador of my Pit Bull breed. I love to play, walk, run, and I love when it snows.  I love my family and my human sister, so much!

And I love that today I’m turning 3!  Go out and make another pup’s birthday by adopting, rescuing, fostering or donating!

Enjoy your weekend!

Love,

Shemp

Dog of the Week: Kudjoe – Help Me Beat Cancer’s Butt!

Hi!  My name is Kudjoe.  I’m a 4 year old mutt.

Kudjoe

My momma, Jen, found me on Craig’s list.  My other humans weren’t sure what to do with me so they decided to find me another home.

Believe it or not, I met my momma the first time in a Walmart parking lot.  It was puppy love at first sight and still is.

Happy Jen and Kudjoe

I was little then, but grew to be big, like a bear!  Bear – that’s my momma’s nickname for me.  Because I’m big and have a Bear face! I’m a sweet, silly boy, who likes to have fun.  Sometimes people call me goofy…I’m not sure what they mean, but I think it’s a compliment.

So…I think Miss Grace told me I should tell you all about the things I like to do.

I like to eat. A lot. Snacks, chips, pizza, anything really.  I love the Redskins.  They’re my favorite team, even though they didn’t do so good this season.  But, like I always say, there’s always hope!

Kudjoe the Redskins fan

I like to take long walks, chew on toys, and take naps with my momma in her bed.

I love the snow.  Kind of with….what’s that called…oh, a passion!  It’s one of my favorite things.

And one thing I don’t like at all: UPS trucks. I would be happy if a package was never delivered to any human ever again, just so I didn’t have to see or hear those, big, brown, loud, machines.  They make me bark. And sometimes, like my momma says, they make me go a little crazy.

Now for the serious stuff.  Last week, I wasn’t feeling so good.  I didn’t really want to eat, which is weird for me, because I want to eat all the time!  I was tired and throwing up and didn’t want to play.

My momma took me to the vet, and after they poked and prodded me for a while, they told my momma I had cancer.

The cancer is stage 2 T-Cell Lymphoma and is in my blood and my spleen.  I’m having surgery today.  They are taking out my whole spleen – did you know dogs could live without it? I didn’t either.  I still don’t even know what a spleen does, but they said I would feel a lot better once it was out.

After my surgery, I will have to take lots of medicines.  My momma is a kindergarten teacher and a full time grad student, so she doesn’t have lots of monies.  My aunt, Amanda, started a piggy bank thingy online for me.  If anybody wants to donate, I know my momma would like it.

Jen and Kudjoe

While I’ve been sick, the vet people told my momma to just feed me what I wanted.  So my momma has been giving me whatever I want!  I’ve had filet mignon and bacon a few times, and I don’t think I want to give that up when I get better!

Thank you for listening to my story.  And if you want to help me and my momma, click on the link and say some prayers for us.  Have a good weekend full of fun, playing, and snacks. Lots of snacks.

Love,

Kudjoe
